West Bengal is the only place among so many places where there are five satipeeths in the same district. Birbhum, the land of red soil, is called the pasture of Mother Kali.
Sati committed suicide in the fire of Dakshayagna.
Due to which the body of Goddess Sati was divided into 51 parts in different places.
Daksharaja organized a yajna. Sati committed suicide in the fire of that sacrifice. Devadidev became mad with that anger. Everyone got scared after seeing his deluge dance. Lord Vishnu sent Sudarshan Chakra to save the world from destruction. Due to which the body of Goddess Sati was divided into 51 parts in different places. All those places are called Satipeeth. Every Peeth of Sati is sacred in Hinduism.
1. Kankalitala
Kangkalitala Satipeeth is situated on the bank of river Kopai about 7 km from Bolpur station. According to Puranas, the skeleton or waist skeleton of the goddess fell in this place. As a result of which the name here is Kangkalitala. Also worshiped in this temple as Goddess, Devagarbha. There is no mother idol or idol here. The image of Mother Kangkali is worshiped here. Puja is performed here every new moon. However, on the new moon of Kali Puja, a special yagna is performed here.
Next to the Kangkalitala temple is a small banked pond, around which steps descend into the water. This is the real satikunda. In which Sati's skeleton fell. According to Purana, Sati's bones fell here with such force that the impact of Vishnu's sudarshan chakra created a pit here. This tank is believed to be very holy. It is heard that the tank is connected with the Manikarnika ghat of Kashi through 3 tunnels. Through one of them water comes to that tank throughout the year. And that's why Kankalitala's pool never dries up. But as per mother's wishes, the tank dries up once every 19-20 years. And just at that time Manikarnika Ghat was also closed for any reason. Again, after the puja, the tank is filled with water overnight.
2.Nalateshwari
Goddess Parvati's vocal cords fell at this place near Nalhati station in Birbhum. Since then the name of this pitha is Nalateshwari. Publicized by word of mouth, Kamdev rescues Satiri Kanthali in Swapnadesh. Goddess is worshiped here as Trinayani Kalika. The place is named Nalhati after this satipeeth.
Maa Nalateshwari temple is built on a small hillock, which was once covered by dense forest. Amishashi is the mother of this temple. Mother is given food here on 365 days of the year.
3. Nandikeswari
Nandikeshwari Temple is located in Saithiya town of Birbhum. Sati's voice was lost here.
The mother was under the banyan tree in the temple premises. Later, the zamindar of that time and the people of the area built the temple and kept Nandikeswari Ma inside.
4. Bakreshwar
Bakreshwar of Birbhum is one of the Satipeeths. This place is named Bakreshwar after the sage Ashtavakra Muni. The middle ground of Sati's two eyebrows i.e. the mind fell here. Mother is worshiped here as Mahishamardini Durga. So every year Durga Puja is organized here with great fanfare. According to Puranas, one day Kohl Muni was reciting the Vedas, while Gargi, his wife-to-be, was sitting in front of him. At that time, suddenly, Gargi's unborn child caught Munir's reading of the Vedas from inside the womb and got angry and cursed his wife's unborn child. Then Gargi, when she gave birth, her eight limbs were bent. That child later became Ashtabkra Muni.
This Ashtavakra Muni got the darshan of Mahadev after thousands of years of penance at this place. As instructed by Mahadev, he dug earth in 8 places and coated his body and got the divine form of Ashtavakra Muni. Hence the name of this place is Bakreshwar. Even today there are 8 kundas in Bakreshwar, where the hot spring flows throughout the year. It is believed that bathing there can cure various diseases.
5. Fullora
One of the Peeths is Fullora Sati Peeth, located in Lovepur. It takes about 10 minutes to reach Phullorapith by walking from Pur Station. Here Sati's lower abdomen or lips fell. Here the goddess, Phullora is worshiped and Bhairav is worshiped as Vishwaswar. But there is no idol of Goddess Fullora in this temple. Inside the temple is a large stone block of brilliant red color. The front part of that stone is mouth-shaped. In front of the temple of the goddess is a barricaded ghat. It is said that every year before Durga Puja, a strange sound comes from the north-east side of the reservoir. After hearing that, the Goddess Sandhipuja begins. Fish sauce is an essential part of a full mom's daily diet.
Vasisitha Muni's son Attahas was the first saint of this satipeeth and after him the place was then named Attahas.
