Story of Sawan Month-
There is a story about the month of Sawan that - "When the Sanat Kumars asked Lord Shiva the reason for their love for the month of Sawan, Lord Bholenath told that when Goddess Sati had sacrificed her body with yoga power in the house of her father Daksha, Prior to that, Goddess Sati had vowed to have Mahadev as her husband in every birth. In her second birth, Goddess Sati was born as a daughter by the name of Parvati in Himachal and Queen Maina's house. Staying fast during the month, fasted hard and pleased Shiva and married him, only after which it became special for Mahadev.
Apart from this, according to another legend, Markandeya, the son of Markandu Rishi, had attained the grace of Shiva by doing severe penance in the month of Sawan for a long life, due to which Yamraj, the god of death, was also bowed down in front of the mantra powers.
Another reason why Lord Shiva is dear to the month of Sawan is that Lord Shiva had descended on the earth in the month of Sawan and went to his in-laws' house and there he was welcomed with Arghya and Jalabhishek. It is believed that Lord Shiva visits his in-laws' house se every year in the month of Sawan. This is the best time for the people of the land to get the blessings of Shiva.

It is mentioned in the mythology that the ocean was churned in this month of Sawan. After churning the ocean, the poison that came out, Lord Shankar saved the world by swallowing it in his throat. But Mahadev's throat turned blue due to the poison. Hence he got the name 'Neelkanth Mahadev'. All the gods and goddesses offered water to him to reduce the effect of the poison. That is why offering water on Shivling has special significance. This is the reason why offering water to the innocent in the month of Shravan gives special results. It is mentioned in 'Shiva Purana' that Lord Shiva himself is water. Therefore, worshiping him in the form of his consecration with water is the best fruit, in which there is no doubt.
It is mentioned in the scriptures that Lord Vishnu goes into Yoga Nidra in the month of Sawan. Therefore, this time is invaluable for all the devotees, saints and saints. It is a four-month Vedic yajna, which is a kind of mythological fast, also known as 'Choumasa'; Thereafter, Lord Shiva assumes the responsibility of running the universe. Therefore the principal deity of Sawan becomes Lord Shiva.
Significance of Sawan Monday-
On every Monday of the month of Shravan, fasts are observed for Shiva. There is a special law for worshiping Shiva in this month. Some devotees worship Lord Shiva and fast for the whole month. Most of the people observe fast only on Mondays falling in the month of Shravan. In the Mondays of the month of Shravan, Shiva's fasts, worship and Shiva's aarti have special significance. These fasts of Shiva are auspicious and fruitful. Lord Shiva is very pleased with all the devotees who observe these fasts. This fast is done for the happiness of Lord Shiva. In the fast, after worshiping Lord Shiva, one meal is taken at one time. In the fast, after meditating on Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, worship should be done while chanting 'Shiv Panchakshara Mantra'.
Monday is important in the month of Sawan. Monday's numerological value is 2, which represents the moon. The moon is the signifier of the mind and is seated on the head of Lord Shiva. 'Chandra Manso Jaatah' means 'Moon is the master of the mind' and he has an important contribution in its control and regulation. That is, by controlling the moon on the head, Lord Shankar concentrates the mind of the said seeker or devotee and frees him from the captivity of Maya in the form of avidya. By the grace of Lord Shankar, the devotee attains the transcendental spirit and this proves to be the main basis for his liberation from birth and death.
